Since google « offered » Java support to their cloud platform , I just see java coming everywhere now.

While Oracle is getting rid of the OS to run directly Java on VM hypervisors, I see VMware (Spring) and salesforce.com doing the same….

Not talking about the Android Platform, which is now the most dangerous concurrent to IPhone…

You are right, is not dead, but is not the all-domains hammer anymore, now java has more specific niches and its growing solid on these. Additionally I see a lot of potential as the meta-language for other languages that run in the JVM.

Actually, I think the problem with Java (other than over complexity and lack of productivity) is the jvm itself. It’s the bloat. Trying to use the jvm to create dynamic languages (i.e groovy) is like using a lorry to cut a garden’s grass.
